A Traverse City Family Restores the Safety of their Home and Neighborhood by Removing Lead Hazards
Chris and Marissa Loud knew their old home would need some work, but they never imagined the hidden dangers of lead would threaten their family’s well-being. When their two daughters were diagnosed with high blood lead levels from lead dust in their home, the Louds turned to their local health department for help and discovered Michigan Saves’ Lead Poisoning Prevention Fund. With the support of the program’s 50/50 cost-share incentive, they were able to take on a $100,000 lead abatement project, removing the hazardous materials and securing a safer future for their children. The Loud family’s story is a powerful reminder of how Michigan Saves helps families protect what matters most—their health and their homes.
