How to Become a Michigan Saves Authorized Lead Abatement Contractor

1. Review the Michigan Saves authorized lead abatement contractor requirements

All contractors must meet the minimum qualifications and provide the appropriate documentation to be considered for the Lead Fund by Michigan Saves.

Contractor Eligibility and Application Requirements

  • State of Michigan-licensed business
  • State of Michigan lead certified lead abatement firm*
  • Insurance coverage for: automobile liability, commercial general liability, employer’s liability, environmental and pollution liability, professional liability (or errors and omissions), workers’ compensation (or self-insurance)

*MDHHS provides scholarships for individual contractors to become state certified as a lead abatement worker and a lead abatement supervisor.

2. Complete your contractor application through NGEN

To begin your application, go to NGEN (you can also access NGEN through the login link in the upper right-hand corner of the Michigan Saves home page) and click “New Contractor? Sign up here.” There is no application fee.

  • Fill out all the required fields in the application form and upload the required certificates of insurance showing all coverages
  • Choose “Lead Poisoning Prevention Fund” from the program options and select “lead abatement” as the service that you will provide
  • Review and sign the contractor agreement
  • Complete the required contractor training modules

3. Receive personalized support from Michigan Saves

After completing your application, a Michigan Saves representative will contact you with additional program materials and answer any questions.
