The Cold Doesn’t Have to Cost You

Older home in winter time with snow every where

In the winter months, it’s not uncommon for homeowners to see a significant portion of their energy bills go toward heating. Even worse, some homes are more wasteful than others because of inadequate air sealing or insulation, or heating equipment that isn’t operating at its optimal energy efficiency.

In a recent report on this very issue, Michigan Radio’s Lester Graham talked to Michigan Saves and one of our authorized contractors, Kevin Shoemaker of Shoemaker Heating and Plumbing. Like many of our contractors, Kevin often encounters residents who can’t afford the cost of new heating equipment—even when it’s costing them energy and money.

“I’ve been in the industry for 42 years, and Michigan Saves is the only program that I can sit down with a customer, look them straight in the eye, and tell them it’s a good deal and value,” Shoemaker said. “Especially during the winter months, Michigan Saves helps to provide necessary cash for them to get what they need and perhaps didn’t plan for.”

Shoemaker added that Michigan Saves financing not only allows customers to make the energy improvements they need but helps them afford the most efficient and premium equipment they want.

We make energy efficiency affordable

Michigan Saves financing can be used to pay for virtually anything a homeowner needs to make their living space more energy efficient and comfortable for their family. Furnaces, boilers, water heaters and more—we help Michigan residents break the connection between a high energy bill and a warm home.

When it’s time to service your home’s heating equipment or improve its insulation, you may notice signs like drafts or unusually cold floors. Other helpful indicators, according to ENERGY STAR®, include:

  • You have high energy bills
  • Some rooms in your home are too hot or cold
  • You feel drafts or have unusually cold floors
  • Your heat pump is more than ten years old, or your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old
  • Your heating system is noisy
  • Your house has excessive dust

If you’re experiencing any of these issues, we can help. Call 517-484-4674 or email [email protected] for more information. Or connect with one of our authorized contractors in your area to help you get started.
